COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP)—A $65 million community center in Coeur d’Alene that’s being funded largely with money from the founders of McDonald’s fast-food restaurants is on track to open in April.
Heavy snows haven’t upset the schedule of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. Maj. John Chamness, Kroc Center executive director, says "There’s no reason to change our schedule now."
Most of the project and its future operational costs are being paid for from the $1.5 billion that Joan Kroc left to the Salvation Army when she died in 2003.
Coeur d’Alene residents also contributed $6.7 million in private donations last year for the center, what northern Idaho officials say was the largest one-time capital campaign in the region.
